The securities crowdfunding (SCF) industry continues to show positive growth trends in recent years.
According to a report by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the total funding raised through SCF reached Rp507.20 billion from the beginning of the year until June 3, 2022.
This figure represents a 22.75% increase from the total funds raised throughout 2021, which amounted to Rp413.19 billion.
SCF is an alternative funding source for MSMEs utilizing a crowdfunding scheme with a securities offering concept.
With the SCF scheme, investors and those needing funds are connected through a digital platform or application. Investors can then purchase and obtain ownership of securities through shares, debt certificates (bonds), or joint ownership certificates (sukuk).
Investors will also receive profits in the form of dividends or profit sharing from the business profits, distributed periodically.
"Following the issuance of POJK Number 57 of 2020 concerning securities offerings through technology-based crowdfunding services, public enthusiasm for securities crowdfunding has increased rapidly," said OJK Spokesperson Sekar Putih Djarot in an official statement on Wednesday (June 8, 2022).
According to the OJK report, the number of issuers from among MSMEs utilizing SCF has grown by 89.60% year-to-date (YTD) from 125 to 237 issuers as of early June 2022.
The number of investors participating in SCF is also increasing. When SCF was first introduced in Indonesia in 2018, there were only around 1,380 investors in this industry. This number has steadily increased to 111,351 investors by mid-2022.
