According to a Populix survey titled *Understanding the Impact of Online Gambling Ads Exposure*, 82% of Indonesian internet users were exposed to online gambling advertisements in the past six months.
Of that number, the most frequently encountered type of online gambling advertisement was for slot games, seen by 80% of respondents.
Next were domino gambling ads (48% of respondents), followed by online poker (48%), online casino (47%), and sports betting (44%).
There were also less explicit online gambling ads, such as e-Games (15%), card games (15%), virtual sports (8%), and number games (7%).
Populix Head of Social Research Vivi Zabkie stated that the proliferation of online gambling advertisements has a tangible impact on people's interest in accessing these sites.
“This finding highlights the need for collaborative action between government and society to address the potential social implications of online gambling,” Vivi said in a statement, as reported by *CNN Indonesia* on Tuesday (February 6, 2024).
On the one hand, 41% of respondents admitted to being interested in accessing online gambling sites, and 16% stated they had tried it.
This survey was conducted from November 21-28, 2023, among 864 respondents who had seen online gambling ads in the past six months. Respondents were spread across various regions in Indonesia, with 52% male and 48% female.
The majority of respondents were from Java (80%), followed by Sumatra (11%), and other islands (9%). By age, respondents were dominated by the 17-25 age group (45%) and the 26-35 age group (21%).
