Germany's national team won the 2023 U-17 World Cup after defeating France in a penalty shootout in the final match at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Saturday evening (December 2nd, 2023) WIB.
Germany initially took a two-goal lead thanks to a penalty by Paris Bunner (29') and a goal by Noah Darvich (51'). However, France managed to close the gap.
Saimon Bouabre reduced the deficit just two minutes after Darvich's goal, while Mathis Amougou equalized at 2-2 five minutes before the end of regulation time.
Both teams failed to find a winning goal in extra time, leading to a penalty shootout. Germany ultimately triumphed 4-3 over France.
This victory marks Germany's first U-17 World Cup title. Furthermore, this win makes history for Der Panzer, as they are the first nation to win both the European Championship and the World Cup in the same calendar year.
Previously, Germany won the 2023 U-17 European Championship held in Hungary in May-June 2023. That victory was also achieved via a penalty shootout against France in the final match.
