How Much Government Funding Do Political Parties Receive?

Government assistance for political parties reached Rp 12.8 trillion. This amount ranges from Rp 700 million to Rp 2.5 billion. However, political parties consider this insufficient, as their needs far exceed government assistance.

As reported by Koran Tempo (May 4th), KPK research data shows that government assistance for the PDI Perjuangan party was only Rp 2.5 billion, while their funding needs reached Rp 507 billion. For the Golkar Party, government assistance was only Rp 1.9 billion, while their needs reached Rp 394 billion. Similarly, for other political parties, funding needs are far greater than government assistance.

The substantial costs of paying witnesses in every presidential and legislative election have led political parties to request that the government cover these expenses. This plan will be included in the revision of the General Election Law. The proposed funding is Rp 100,000 per witness. The Head of the Special Committee for the Revision of the General Election Law, Lukman Edi, stated that this funding will be provided by the government to the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu). Then, Bawaslu will pay the election witness honorarium of Rp 570,000.
