Based on the latest survey by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka have outperformed their two competitors in simulations of prospective presidential (capres) and vice-presidential (cawapres) candidate pairings for the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).
The survey was conducted after the Constitutional Court (MK) decision on the age limit for capres and cawapres, which allows those under 40 to run for President provided they have experience as a regional head, was made on Monday (16/10/2023).
The survey results show that the Prabowo-Gibran pairing received the most votes, with 35.9% of respondents choosing them, while the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pairing received 26.1%, and the Anies-Muhaimin pairing received 19.6%. The remaining 18.3% of respondents said they didn't know or didn't answer.
Beyond Gibran, the LSI survey also simulated pairings of Prabowo with the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir. Prabowo paired with either of these figures still outperformed the Ganjar-Mahfud MD and Anies-Muhaimin pairings.
In the simulation of Prabowo paired with Khofifah, they were chosen by 35.8% of respondents, while Ganjar-Mahfud received 26.7%, Anies-Muhaimin 20.6%, and 16.8% didn't know or didn't answer.
Meanwhile, those choosing Prabowo-Erick reached 39%, followed by those choosing Ganjar-Mahfud at 27%, Anies-Muhaimin at 19.2%, and 14.7% who didn't know or didn't answer.
Most recently, Prabowo declared Gibran as his running mate for the 2024 Presidential Election on Sunday evening (22/10/2023).
The United Indonesia Coalition will register the Prabowo-Gibran pairing with the General Election Commission (KPU) on the last day of registration, Wednesday (25/10/2023).
"On the 25th (October), Wednesday, we will register with the KPU," said Prabowo, as reported by Kompas.com, Sunday (22/10/2023).
Meanwhile, their two competitors, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD and Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, had already registered with the KPU on the first day of presidential registration, Thursday (19/10/2023).
This survey was conducted from October 16-18, 2023, with 1,229 respondents, representing a demographic spread of the population across all regions of Indonesia. Respondents were Indonesian citizens aged 17 or older, or married and possessing a telephone, representing approximately 83% of the national population.
Selected respondents were interviewed by telephone by trained interviewers. The survey sample was drawn using the random digit dialing (RDD) method. RDD is a technique for selecting samples through the random generation of telephone numbers.
The survey sample was selected through a process of random telephone number generation, validation, and screening. The margin of error of the survey is estimated to be around 2.9% at a 95% confidence level.
