PDI Perjuangan Wins in North Sumatra in the 2019 General Election

In the 2019 General Election, PDI Perjuangan secured the most votes in North Sumatra province.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that PDI Perjuangan obtained 1.4 million votes in the 2019 election. This figure represents 20.95% of the total valid votes in North Sumatra, which amounted to 6.7 million.

Its closest competitor, Gerindra Party, garnered 904,050 votes (13.48%). This was followed by Golkar Party with 878,690 votes (13.11%), and Nasdem Party with 819,490 votes (12.22%).

The Indonesian Unity and Solidarity Party (PKPI) received the fewest votes, with only 17,900 votes (0.27%). Following this were Garuda Party with 19,060 votes (0.28%), and the Bulan Bintang Party (PBB) with 57,920 votes (0.86%).

For information, North Sumatra was divided into 3 electoral districts (Dapil) in the 2019 election. A total of 30 representatives from the province hold seats in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2019-2024 period.

Nationally, PDI Perjuangan was victorious in the 2019 election, obtaining 27.05 million votes (19.33%) of the 139.97 million valid national votes.

Although the next general election is in 2024, political parties are already engaging in lobbying to form coalitions to nominate presidential candidates.
