BPS: Jakarta Increasingly Democratic Under Anies Baswedan's Leadership

The Central Statistics Agency shows that Jakarta's Indonesia Democracy Index (IDI) score has steadily increased from 2007 to 2020. This report indicates that the capital city has become increasingly democratic under the leadership of Anies Baswedan.

Jakarta's IDI in 2020 reached 89.21, a 0.92-point increase compared to 2019's score of 88.29. This score significantly surpasses the national IDI of 73.66 in the same year.

The IDI calculation considers three aspects: civil liberties, political rights, and democratic institutions. In 2020, Jakarta achieved scores of 93.27, 84.95, and 90.86 in these respective aspects.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has maintained its top ranking in Indonesia for four consecutive years since 2017. The IDI in Jakarta continued to grow, reaching 84.73 in 2017, 85.08 in 2018, and 88.29 in 2019.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan commented on the democracy index via his Facebook account. He stated that this achievement demonstrates the increasing maturity of Jakarta's citizens in democratic practices.

He added that collaboration among all stakeholders and community components is necessary to maintain Jakarta's conducive and democratic environment.

"This index serves as a mirror to reflect our strengths and weaknesses in democracy. Even though Jakarta's democracy index has increased this year, there is still some unfinished business to address," said Anies on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
