To commemorate Youth Pledge Day, Kompas R&D released survey results regarding the various challenges faced by Indonesian youth.

The majority, or 59.4% of respondents, believe that the main challenge for youth today is a lack of job opportunities.

Some also pointed to youth involvement in criminal acts (15.1%), as well as the temptation of social media encouraging excessive lifestyles (7.6%).

"Ranging from narcotics, criminal acts amidst various upheavals, to lifestyle standards often shared on social media," said the Kompas R&D team in its report on Monday (27/10/2025).

Other challenges include an unconducive national situation (7.3%), polarization and inter-group division (4.4%), and an apathetic attitude or indifference towards national issues (3.5%).

Nevertheless, 73.1% of respondents are confident that the current young generation is capable of leading Indonesia to become a developed nation.

This survey involved 528 respondents from 72 cities across 38 provinces, who were randomly selected, proportional to the population in each province.

Data collection was conducted from September 8-12, 2025, via telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is 4.22% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
