A Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) poll shows that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) received a failing grade from Indonesian netizens.

"The dominance of negative sentiment serves as a strong warning to the police in carrying out their duties in the field, especially regarding the control of mass demonstrations," wrote a Litbang Kompas researcher in their report on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Litbang Kompas assessed that the incident triggered public anger and developed into a broader issue. This ranges from demands for the National Police Chief to take responsibility to criticism of the police's handling of the demonstrators.

Expressions like "murderous police" and "murderous Brimob" are increasingly appearing on social media. This finding indicates that the incident was not an isolated event.

"This crisis not only potentially threatens the good image of the Polri, but is also vulnerable to instability and disorder in society," wrote Litbang Kompas.
