Pancasila Day is commemorated every June 1st. A survey by Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) reveals several challenges Indonesia faces in implementing Pancasila's values in the era of globalization.
The results show that 34.5% of respondents consider the influence of technology and social media to be the biggest obstacle in implementing Pancasila's values. This refers to the spread of hoaxes and hate speech that can threaten national unity.
"The easier and more open access to information becomes, the faster and greater the potential for the entry of disinformation that can cause social polarization and lead to conflict," wrote a Kompas Research and Development researcher in their report on Monday (June 2nd, 2025).
The next challenge is the abuse of power and the practice of corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN), voiced by 34.3% of respondents. This is followed by 30.6% who assess the lack of understanding and education of Pancasila, especially among the younger generation.
"This finding confirms an ideological literacy crisis among the younger generation. Strengthening Pancasila education at all levels of education is a necessity," wrote the Kompas Research and Development researcher.
Then, the influence of foreign cultural attacks that degrade the experience of Pancasila's values became an obstacle for 26.6%.
Furthermore, those who assessed that the emergence of individualism (21.3%), the birth of new ideologies in modern society (14.6%), and behaviors that contradict the values of Pancasila (11.6%) are challenges in the implementation of Pancasila's values in the era of globalization.
This survey involved 514 respondents from 58 cities in 38 provinces, selected randomly according to the population proportion in each province. The survey questions used multiple answer options, allowing respondents to choose more than one answer.
Data collection was conducted from May 19th to 22nd, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.25% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
