AHY Rejected by Anies, Is He Suitable to Accompany Prabowo Subianto? Here's the Survey Result

The race for the vice presidential candidate (bacawapres) in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres 2024) remains dynamic. Most recently, Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, has been chosen as the vice presidential candidate for Anies Baswedan, who is supported by the NasDem Party, PKB, and PKS.

This nomination announcement was not only surprising but also considered to have reshuffled the nomination and coalition arrangements. This is despite the fact that Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the Chairman of the Democratic Party, had been planned as Anies' running mate for a considerable time.

However, several other strong presidential candidates have yet to decide on their running mates. One of them is Prabowo Subianto. So, who is considered the most suitable running mate for the Gerindra Party Chairman?

The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) collected public perception in Indonesia regarding suitable partners for Prabowo. Erick Thohir received the highest number of votes, with 15.9% of respondents choosing him.

Besides Erick, AHY was also considered the most suitable running mate for Prabowo. Despite being dropped by Anies, the son of Indonesia's 6th President received the second-highest percentage in this survey, at 12.1%.

"Erick at 15.9% and AHY at 12.1% are the two candidates most considered as the most suitable vice president for Prabowo Subianto; other names received lower percentages," wrote LSI in its written report.

Following them are Mahfud MD, considered suitable by 9.9% of respondents, and Khofifah Indar Parawansa, chosen by 7.2% of respondents.

Cak Imin was also considered a suitable running mate for Prabowo Subianto, but with a considerably smaller percentage, at 6.4%. Meanwhile, 31.2% of respondents answered "don't know/didn't answer" (TT/TJ).

The LSI survey was conducted from August 3-9, 2023, through face-to-face interviews, involving 1,220 respondents from across Indonesia. All respondents were 17 years or older or married.

The margin of error for the survey is approximately 2.9% at a 95% confidence level.
