Ahead of the 2024 Regional Elections, Many Residents Have Yet to Decide on Their Choice

The 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

One month before the election, a significant number of citizens have yet to decide on their choice for governor (cagub), regent (cabup), or mayor (cawalkot).

According to a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) survey conducted at the end of October 2024, only 35.2% of respondents had decided on their choices for cagub, cabup/cawalkot.

Furthermore, 10.6% had only decided on their choice for cagub, and 10% had only decided on their choice for cabup/cawalkot.

Meanwhile, 43.9% of respondents had not yet made any choice.

Litbang Kompas also found that 81.8% of respondents believe that the 2024 Pilkada will be conducted safely, honestly, and fairly.

However, 14.8% of respondents stated otherwise, and 3.4% did not know or did not answer.

"This public hope and belief is certainly a challenge for election organizers at all levels, especially the KPU (General Election Commission) and regional KPUs," wrote Litbang Kompas in its report on Monday, November 25, 2024.

This survey involved 540 respondents from 38 provinces randomly selected from the Litbang Kompas panel, in accordance with the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from October 21-23, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.21% with a 95% confidence level, under simple random sampling conditions.
