The Indonesian Political Indicator Survey on public trust in state institutions found that public trust in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has tended to decline.
In the September 2018 survey, public trust in the KPK reached its highest level at 84.8%. The figure then steadily declined to 71.1% in November 2021.
In subsequent surveys, public trust in the KPK began to increase, reaching 71.7% in December 2021 and 73.5% in February 2022. However, these figures remain lower than those recorded in 2018.
Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Executive Director of Indonesian Political Indicators, believes the decline in public trust in the KPK is related to several issues, one of which is the revision of the KPK Law.
"The KPK was once among the most trusted institutions, alongside the TNI and the President. However, lately, the KPK has faced issues, particularly after the revision of the KPK Law, leading to a decrease in public trust. While there has been an increase since December 2021, it has not yet reached its previous level of trust," said Burhanuddin in a virtual press release on Sunday (3/4/2022).
Overall, the Indonesian Political Indicators presented data on 8 state institutions. The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) was the most trusted institution, with a percentage of 92.7% in February 2022.
This survey was conducted from February 11-21, 2022. The survey population consisted of citizens aged 17 years or older, or those who were married at the time of the survey. Sample selection used a multistage random sampling method.
The survey's base sample size was 1,200 people. Samples came from all provinces, proportionally distributed. Assuming simple random sampling, the margin of error is approximately ±2.9% at a 95% confidence level.
