What are the Most Pressing Issues to be Addressed at the 2023 ASEAN Summit? This is the Survey

Indonesia has once again been chosen to host the 43rd ASEAN Summit, held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, from September 5-7, 2023.

From a series of issues discussed in this meeting, an issue considered urgent by the public emerged. This is recorded in the Kompas Research and Development survey entitled "Indonesia for ASEAN, ASEAN for Indonesia".

A majority, or 35% of the total respondents, stated that accelerating economic growth is the most pressing issue to be resolved at the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

Next, followed by economic cooperation issues, which were also considered an important issue by 25.5% of respondents to be discussed in this meeting.

"This urgency goes hand in hand with the achievement of regional economic growth post-pandemic," wrote Kompas Research and Development in its report on Monday (4/9/2023).

Issues surrounding regional stability and security, such as the South China Sea issue, are also issues that received attention from 18% of respondents.

Then, 9.2% of respondents considered immigration issues important to be discussed at the 2023 ASEAN Summit, considering the high number of Indonesian workers (TKI) channeled to ASEAN.

The remainder includes 1.8% of respondents who answered "other" and 10% who answered "don't know".

This survey involved 510 respondents from 34 provinces in Indonesia, randomly selected from the Kompas Research and Development panel respondents.

Data collection was conducted from August 8-11, 2023, using telephone interview methods. The margin of error is approximately 4.35% and the confidence level is 95%.
