Performance and Track Record: Key Considerations for Voters in the 2024 Regional Elections

The Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) will be held on November 27, 2024, to elect governors, regents, and mayors for the 2024-2029 period.

According to a survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), various factors influence people's choices in this election, especially the performance and track record of the candidates.

The majority, or 41.13%, of respondents stated that performance and track record are the most influential factors in their choice of regional head.

Then, 24.5% prioritized vision, mission, and programs; 14.5% considered the candidate's religion; 9.1% reviewed their personal character; and 6.5% chose based on the candidate's competence.

Some also considered the candidate's region of origin, ethnicity, appearance, age, and gender, with proportions as shown in the graph.

KIC also found that the majority of respondents considered honesty to be the primary quality a regional head should possess, followed by experienced, innovative, and decisive characters.

This KIC survey involved 7,864 respondents spread across 8 provinces, with criteria of being over 17 years old and possessing a mobile phone number.

The surveyed provinces were Banten (885 respondents), Jakarta (1,054 respondents), West Java (1,172 respondents), Central Java (895 respondents), East Java (882 respondents), South Sulawesi (869 respondents), West Sumatra (1,047 respondents), and North Sumatra (1,060 respondents).

The gender composition of the respondents consisted of 60.7% male and 39.3% female.

Most respondents were millennials or in the 28-43 age group (45.6%), followed by the 17-27 age group (39.4%) and the 44-59 age group (13.8%).

Data collection was conducted from May 3-9, 2024, online through tSurvey Telkomsel data collection. Sampling used a non-probability sampling method, with a margin of error of approximately 1.1% at a 95% confidence level.
