Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) conducted a survey on political parties receiving the most support from critical voters. SMRC identifies critical voters as an important voter segment.
"Critical voters are generally not easily swayed or influenced, and conversely, can influence other voters," wrote the SMRC research team in their report on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
The research team stated that voters who own a telephone or mobile device are indicative of the critical voter group. They tend to have greater access to socio-political information compared to those without devices.
"And therefore, they are critical in assessing various issues," said the research team.
So, how does the support of this critical voter group look across political parties?

The greatest support was given to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) at 16.1% of total respondents. Second was Gerindra, chosen by 11.7% of respondents.
Third was Golkar, with a proportion of 8.7%. Fourth and fifth were PKB and Democrat, with proportions of 6.1% and 5.1% respectively.
However, 31.2% of respondents did not mention their preferred party, indicating they didn't know or didn't answer (DK/DN). This proportion exceeds the voters who support PDI-P.
The target population of this survey was Indonesian citizens aged 17 years and older or who are married and own a telephone or smartphone.
Sample selection was conducted using the random digit dialing (RDD) method. RDD is a technique for selecting samples through the random generation of telephone numbers.
Using the RDD technique, a sample of 831 respondents was selected through the random generation of telephone numbers, validation, and screening.
The survey's margin of error is estimated at 3.5% at a 95% confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
Interviews with respondents were conducted by telephone by trained interviewers. The survey was last conducted on April 18-19, 2023.
