President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) claims to support all prospective presidential candidates (capres) in the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres 2024). This statement was in response to Puan Maharani, Chairwoman of the PDI-P Central Leadership Council (DPP), who questioned Jokowi's support for Ganjar Pranowo or other prospective presidential candidates.
"I support them all for the good of this country," Jokowi claimed after attending the 2023 National Santri Day Ceremony at the Heroes Monument in Surabaya, as reported by CNN Indonesia on Sunday (22/10/2023).
However, how does the public perceive Jokowi's support for the current prospective presidential candidates?
A perception survey conducted by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) shows that 39.3% of respondents believe that Prabowo Subianto is the presidential candidate most supported by Jokowi.
Below him is Ganjar Pranowo with 36.9%. The public who believe Jokowi will support Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate is only 4.8%.
Furthermore, 18.9% of respondents did not know or did not answer regarding which presidential candidate is more supported by Jokowi.
"So, up to the time this survey was conducted, the public seems to still perceive Jokowi as supporting both Ganjar and Prabowo. I don't know if Gibran is nominated, there might be a change," said Executive Director Djayadi Hanan while presenting his survey online on Sunday (22/10/2023).
This survey involved 1,229 respondents aged 17 years and older or who are married and have a telephone/cellular phone, approximately 83% of the total national population.
The sample was taken using a random digit dialing (RDD) technique, validated and went through a screening process.
Data collection was conducted from October 16-18, 2023, using a telephone interview method. This survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.9% and a 95% confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
