The Accommodation and Food Service Sector Grew by 3.89% in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices (ADHB) for the accommodation and food service sector at Rp412.26 trillion throughout 2021. This figure represents only 2.43% of the total national GDP, which reached Rp16.97 quadrillion last year.

At constant 2010 prices (ADHK), the accommodation and food service sector grew by 3.89% to Rp310.8 trillion in 2021 from the previous year. This growth is higher than in 2020, which experienced a contraction of 10.26%.

The GDP of the accommodation subsector recorded growth of 5.81% in 2021 compared to the previous year. Similarly, the GDP of the food service subsector grew by 3.52%.

Previously, in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, the accommodation subsector experienced a contraction of 24.49%, while the food service sector also experienced negative growth of 6.88% in 2020.

The strict community activity restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the Corona virus at that time paralyzed the accommodation and food service sector.

The near-dormant tourism and culinary industries in the country also caused the accommodation and food service sector to experience a significant contraction. In 2020, the contraction in this sector was even deeper than the national economy, which only experienced a contraction of 2.07%.
