Textile Industry's Contribution to Indonesia's GDP Declined until Q3 2025

The contribution of the textile industry to Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) has tended to decline in recent years.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in Q1 2020, the current price GDP of the textile industry reached IDR 49.53 trillion, contributing 1.26% to the total national current price GDP.

Subsequently, its contribution gradually decreased, reaching 0.95% in Q3 2025.

The GDP growth of the textile industry has also experienced fluctuations in the last five years.

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, namely in Q2 2020, the textile industry's GDP plummeted, with its growth reaching negative 14% (year-on-year/yoy).

Then, since Q4 2021, the growth of the textile industry began to strengthen again, along with the economic recovery from the pandemic's impact.

However, from the beginning of this year until Q3 2025, its growth rate has slowed down, as shown in the graph.

Currently, the government is striving to strengthen the domestic textile industry, one of which is by banning the import of used clothing.

"We already know who the players are (importers of used clothing bales). If they have ever dealt in used clothing bales, I will blacklist them. They will not be allowed to import goods again," said Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, as reported by Katadata.co.id (22/10/2025).

"So we want to revive domestic textile producers," he said.
