India Had the World's Largest Cryptocurrency User Base in 2021

Currently, cryptocurrency or crypto currency has become one of the favorite investment instruments among the global population. Furthermore, cryptocurrency is rapidly developing as an alternative cashless transaction method, such as remittances and cross-border money transfers.

According to data from the crypto payment company website, triple-a.io, India had the highest number of cryptocurrency users globally in 2021, reaching 100 million people. This was followed by the United States with 27 million cryptocurrency users.

Nigeria recorded 13 million cryptocurrency users. Meanwhile, Vietnam and the United Kingdom had 5.9 million and 3.3 million users, respectively.

Globally, there were over 300 million cryptocurrency users in 2021, and more than 18,000 companies accepted cryptocurrency payments.

Male users comprised a larger percentage of cryptocurrency users (79%) compared to female users (21%). 58% of users were under 34 years old, and 36% of users had an income exceeding US$100,000 per year (approximately Rp 1.43 billion per year).
