The poverty line in West Sumatra increased more significantly this September compared to the previous period. Historically, the province recorded its lowest growth two years ago in September 2020 at 0.27 percent. This year, the poverty line in West Sumatra grew by 7.11 percent.
Looking back, the average increase in the poverty line over the last three years is 3.78 percent. This figure is higher than the average for the previous three years (2016-2019), which stood at 3.05 percent.
The Poverty Line (PL) reflects the minimum rupiah expenditure needed by a person to meet their basic needs for a month, including both food and non-food needs.
The poverty line consists of two components. The food poverty line is the minimum expenditure for food needs, equivalent to 2100 kilocalories per capita per day. The non-food poverty line is the minimum expenditure for non-food needs such as housing, clothing, education, and health.
As stated in the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) report, the highest semester-on-semester growth of the poverty line in this province in seven years was 7.11 percent, and the lowest was 0.27 percent, with an upward trend in the poverty line. This year's poverty line growth is still higher than before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Based on the island, out of a total of 10 provinces in Sumatra, this province ranks second in terms of its poverty line. Compared to the national average, growth in this province is higher.
