Indonesia's banking assets grew by 7 percent Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) from 2010-2016. This ranks fifth, behind China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. However, it outperformed the banking asset growth of South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore. Japanese banking assets, conversely, experienced a 2 percent decline.
Asian banking assets grew by a CAGR of 10.5 percent from 2010-2013, while the CAGR from 2013-2016 was 6.9 percent. United States banking assets grew by only 5 percent CAGR from 2010-2016, while European banking assets declined amidst the debt crisis.
Domestic commercial bank assets reached Rp 6.7 quadrillion in 2016, with a total of 118 banks. Meanwhile, Rural Banks' assets totaled Rp 113.5 trillion, with 1,633 banks.
