Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again in the Early Hours of Today (Friday, May 10, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 03:21 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 37 millimeters and a duration of 477 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 10, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-37 millimeters and durations of 66-692 seconds.

Then, there were 4 emission quakes with amplitudes of 5.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 33-356 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 24 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 661 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (226 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 96 times.
