Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, April 10, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 10:50 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 800 meters above the peak or 2,125 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 millimeters and a duration of 84 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 10, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 43-120 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 153 tremor events with amplitudes of 1.8-8 millimeters and durations of 10-28 seconds, and 1 tornillo earthquake with an amplitude of 16 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2.0-kilometer radius and a 3.5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 509 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (164 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 60 times.
