Indonesia's Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Target 2025-2029

In Indonesia's National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029, the government targets a 45.17% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Low Carbon Development Policy (PRK) in National Program 2 (PN 2) of the RPJMN 2025-2029 is one of the government's strategic efforts to reduce GHG emissions across various sectors to support sustainable development targets.

Regarding GHG emission reductions, the government has set cumulative and annual targets. Cumulatively, the target is a 26.67% reduction in GHG emissions by 2025, 28.18% by 2027, and 30.11% by 2029.

The annual GHG emission reduction targets are 18.37% in 2025, 19.76% in 2027, and 21.12% in 2029.

"These targets can be achieved through a multi-sectoral approach encompassing the energy, forestry and land, agriculture, blue carbon ecosystems such as mangroves and seagrass, industry, and waste management sectors," as stated in the report *Strategy and Staging of Low Carbon Development in the RPJMN 2025-2045 Efforts to Achieve Net Zero Emissions*.

To achieve these targets, the government will implement 6 priority activities outlined in the PRK Priority Program, namely:

1. Reduction of GHG emissions in the energy sector;

2. Reduction of GHG emissions in land-based sectors;

3. Increasing carbon stocks in blue carbon ecosystems;

4. Enhancing industrial decarbonization efforts;

5. Strengthening GHG emission reduction actions in the waste management sector; and

6. Strengthening governance and supporting factors for achieving GHG emission reduction targets and carbon economic value.
