Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again tonight, with ash reaching a height of approximately 300 meters.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 6:08 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 300 meters above the peak or 1,884 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with low to moderate intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 290 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 28, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 volcanic tremor with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 77 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.2-2.9 millimeters and durations of 41-217 seconds, and 1 non-harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 200 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 593 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (196 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 75 times.
