Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Friday, May 10, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 00:40 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 6 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of 307 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 10, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA, showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-37 millimeters and durations of 66-692 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 5.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 33-356 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 24 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and within a 3-kilometer sectoral area in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer sectoral area in the East Northeast direction.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 660 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (226 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 95 times.
