Earthquake Today, May 2, 2024, Shakes Air Buaya, Buru

A recent earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude struck Air Buaya, Buru on May 2, 2024. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea, approximately 41 kilometers northeast of Air Buaya, Buru.

"Earthquake felt Magnitude: 4.9 on May 2, 2024 at 11:59:06," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 2.82°S (South Latitude) and 126.66°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Namlea, with an intensity of II. An MMI scale of II means the earthquake was not felt by most people or was felt only by a few, but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded nine significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
