Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (May 9, 2024) at 04:45 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 25.9 millimeters and a duration of 291 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on May 9, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-37 millimeters and durations of 66-692 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 5.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 33-356 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 24 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and within a 3-kilometer sectoral area in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer sectoral area in the East Northeast direction.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 655 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (224 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 94 times.
