Recent 4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Bitung Region

A 4.7 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Bitung. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was located 22 km northeast of Bitung at sea, and this earthquake is felt and needs to be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, November 4, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 00:18:21. It was located at a depth of 3.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. Meanwhile, the earthquake's coordinates were 1.46°N (North Latitude) and 125.32°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in the Bitung, Manado, and Tondano areas with intensities of IV, II-III, and II-III respectively. The felt MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and glass windows vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 12 significant earthquakes felt by the public in Indonesia over the past week, with varying magnitudes and depths.
