According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the open unemployment rate (TPT) in Purbalingga Regency in December 2023 increased by 0.38% to 5.61% compared to December 2022. Compared to December 2021, however, the open unemployment rate (TPT) decreased, having previously been recorded at 6.05%.

The increase in the open unemployment rate (TPT) is related to the data on the number of the workforce in this region. The number of the workforce in Purbalingga Regency has increased over the past three years. Historically, in 2021 there were 503,680 workers, increasing to 538,510 workers in 2022 and 583,410 workers in 2023.
Regarding the number of employed people, the number of workers in Purbalingga Regency has shown an upward trend over the past 14 years, continuing after the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past four years, the number of workers has also followed an upward trend. In 2021, there were 473,230 workers, increasing by 40,371 workers from the previous year to 550,690 workers in 2023.
The increase in the open unemployment rate (TPT) in Purbalingga Regency is not directly related to a slump in economic growth in 2023. The economy in this region in 2023 was recorded at 4.51 percent. Previously, in 2022, economic growth in this regency/city was recorded at 5.41 percent.
