According to a February 2025 report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 24.99 million workers in West Java, a 3.7% year-on-year (yoy) increase compared to February of the previous year.
However, this growth was not evenly distributed across all business sectors.
Of the 17 main business sectors in West Java, employment increased in 9 sectors and decreased in 8.
The following are the business sectors in West Java with an increase in the number of employed people in February 2025:
1. Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles: increased by 10.7% (yoy) to 5.77 million people
2. Manufacturing industry: increased by 2.7% (yoy) to 4.53 million people
3. Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries: increased by 3.2% (yoy) to 3.89 million people
4. Accommodation and food service activities: increased by 10.1% (yoy) to 2.62 million people
5. Other services: increased by 0.7% (yoy) to 1.44 million people
6. Transportation and warehousing: increased by 15.4% (yoy) to 1.35 million people
7. Corporate services: increased by 8.9% (yoy) to 0.61 million people
8. Information and communication: increased by 8.0% (yoy) to 0.27 million people
9. Mining and quarrying: increased by 27.3% (yoy) to 0.14 million people
The following are the business sectors in West Java with a decrease in the number of employed people in February 2025:
1. Construction: decreased by 0.6% (yoy) to 1.69 million people
2. Education: decreased by 5.8% (yoy) to 1.14 million people
3. Public administration, defense, and compulsory social security: decreased by 21.1% (yoy) to 0.56 million people
4. Financial and insurance services: decreased by 5.7% (yoy) to 0.33 million people
5. Human health and social work activities: decreased by 20.0% (yoy) to 0.32 million people
6. Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities: decreased by 13.6% (yoy) to 0.19 million people
7. Real estate: decreased by 42.9% (yoy) to 0.08 million people
8. Electricity and gas supply: decreased by 25.0% (yoy) to 0.06 million people
