Expenditure of Residents in Southwest Maluku Regency for Purchasing Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products: Rp167.26 per Capita per Week

The average expenditure of people in West Maluku Regency to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products in 2023 was Rp167.26 per capita per week. This figure is lower than the previous year's expenditure, which was recorded at Rp172.58 per capita per week.

Per capita expenditure is the cost incurred for the consumption of all household members over a month, divided by the number of household members. This expenditure can be grouped into two parts: food and non-food needs.

Expenditure on food consumption is calculated weekly, while non-food expenditure is calculated monthly and for the past 12 months. Both food and non-food consumption are then converted into average monthly expenditure. The average per capita consumption/expenditure figures presented in BPS publications are obtained by dividing the total consumption of all households (both consuming food and not) by the total population.

The five largest expenditures of residents for cigarettes and tobacco in West Maluku Regency, in descending order, are spent on filtered kretek cigarettes (Rp7,152.83 per capita per week), tobacco (Rp1,530.08 per capita per week), white cigarettes (Rp666.36 per capita per week), unfiltered kretek cigarettes (Rp260.14 per capita per week), and the lowest is spent on other cigarettes and tobacco (Rp167.26 per capita per week).

According to a publication by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the average per capita expenditure in this regency reached Rp1.14 million per capita per month in March 2023. This figure increased by 19.16% compared to March 2022, which was Rp959,03 thousand per capita per month.

Based on region, the highest expenditure of residents to buy other cigarettes and tobacco is in Jayapura Regency and the lowest is in Kampar Regency. For West Maluku Regency, the nominal expenditure for buying other cigarettes and tobacco is ranked 180th. Meanwhile, the national average per capita expenditure for buying other cigarettes and tobacco is Rp232 per capita per week.
