Food Prices Recorded Highest Inflation in September 2016

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the highest annual inflation in the food commodities group at 6.2 percent. Some commodities that experienced the highest price increases in September 2016 include red chilies, shallots, cooking oil, and rice with side dishes.

The second highest annual inflation occurred in the processed food, beverages, tobacco, and cigarettes group at 5.83 percent. The clothing group experienced inflation of 3.98 percent, and the health group experienced inflation of 3.97 percent.

Of the 82 cities surveyed, 58 experienced inflation and 24 experienced deflation. The highest monthly inflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.85 percent, and the lowest occurred in Purwokerto and Banyuwangi, each at 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest monthly deflation occurred in Pontianak at 1.06 percent, and the lowest in Kendari at 0.01 percent.
