Jakarta's inflation reached its highest point in 2021 at 0.45% in December 2021.

Based on a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), inflation in DKI Jakarta increased again in December 2021. At the end of last year, inflation in the capital city reached 0.45%, up 0.05 percentage points from the previous month's 0.4%.

Throughout 2021, Jakarta experienced inflation nine times and deflation three times. The December 2021 inflation was the highest throughout last year.

The increase in Jakarta's inflation in December coincided with the Christmas and New Year celebrations, resulting in increased market demand, increased public activity outside the home, and global economic volatility. These conditions pushed prices in Jakarta upward.

The main drivers of inflation at the end of the year included rising prices of cooking oil, airfare, chicken eggs, chili peppers, and red chilies.

BPS noted that overall, Jakarta's inflation in 2021 showed an increase compared to 2020. This increase occurred but did not return to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels, namely those of 2018 and 2019.

The movement of inflation in 2021, particularly in the second semester, was above the inflation rate of 2020 and almost matched the inflation rates of 2018 and 2019. This indicates an economic recovery through increased market demand reflected in the inflation rate.
