Kendal Regency's 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached Rp54.36 trillion. This represents a 5.56% growth compared to the previous year's Rp49.67 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic period in 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth recorded a decrease of 1.51%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 1.08 million, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp51,630,000 per capita per year. Nationally, this ranks 218th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the manufacturing industry is the leading sector.
In first place is the manufacturing industry. In 2023, this sector contributed the largest GRDP, reaching Rp22.69 trillion, with a growth of 4.4%.
The second largest GRDP contributor in Kendal Regency is the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, which grew by 2.91% to Rp9.96 trillion, followed by the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector with a GRDP of Rp6.54 trillion (6.58%).
Finally, rounding out the top five GRDP contributors in Kendal Regency is the accommodation and food service sector with a value of Rp2.11 trillion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 15.41% over the past year from the previous achievement of Rp1.81 trillion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to Kendal Regency's GRDP is the manufacturing industry, with a contribution of 39.32%. Other sectors in the top five include agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; construction; and information and communication.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Real Estate; Health and Social Services; Business Services; Electricity and Gas Supply; and Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling.
