According to a report by the Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), South Korea is among the countries with the largest investments in Indonesia. This type of investment is foreign direct investment (FDI) or penanaman modal asing (PMA).

From 2020-2024, South Korea ranked seventh among countries with the largest investment value in Indonesia. Its accumulated value reached US$11.3 billion, or approximately Rp185 trillion.

Its investment realization has also consistently increased every year. In 2020, the value reached US$1.84 billion. It then rose to US$2.3 billion in 2022. Furthermore, in 2024, it increased again to almost US$3 billion.

Although consistently increasing, the realized value has not actually met its projections.

Specifically, the projections were US$5.46 billion in 2020, US$2.51 billion in 2021, US$5.5 billion in 2022, and US$5.9 billion and US$11.2 billion for 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Deputy for Investment Cooperation at BKPM, stated that South Korea's main investment sectors are utilities—such as electricity, gas, and water—automotive, as well as machinery and electronics.

“Focusing on downstreaming, the electric vehicle battery ecosystem project is cited as one of the main projects for South Korean investors,” Tirta said during the discussion APEC at the Crossroads: Building Bridges for Regional Growth, organized by FPCI in Jakarta on Monday (October 13, 2025).
