Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Tuesday, September 30, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (9/30/2025) at 17:17 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 19 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 2,000 meters above the peak or 3,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22.2 millimeters and a duration of 176 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 30, 2025, at 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 4 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 10.5-22.2 millimeters and durations of 84-176 seconds.

Then, 4 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and durations of 31-37 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 82 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activity within a 6-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,473 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,537 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 662 times.
