Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, April 17, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 06:29 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 8 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 800 meters above the peak or 1,887 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 32 millimeters and a duration of 53.6 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Dukono's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 17, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 288 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 33.87-175.37 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 7 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-30 millimeters, S-P of 10.82-36.22 seconds, and durations of 70.62-97.1 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-4 millimeters, predominantly 2 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,898 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,320 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 88 times.
