Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Today, Volcanic Ash Reaches 9,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (14/10/2025) at 23:37 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 4 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 9,000 meters above the peak (10,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest, west, and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 245 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Caution). Seismicity observations on October 14, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 246 seconds.

Then, 2 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.2-47.3 mm and durations of 41-50 seconds, and 5 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-5.9 millimeters and durations of 60-91 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki (southwest-north-northeast sectors).

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,654 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,620 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 699 times.
