Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Friday, March 7, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 7:12 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 48 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 700 meters above the peak (2,025 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 72 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on March 7, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 11:59 PM WIT showed 18 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 17-28 millimeters and durations of 39-47 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 62 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 4-7 millimeters and durations of 11-20 seconds, and 65 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 7-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,951 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (916 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 809 times.
