Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, May 26, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (26/5/2024) at 08.44 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 18 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on May 26, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 7 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10.5-47.3 millimeters and durations of 105-214 seconds.

Then, there were 2 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 14.8 mm and durations of 74-100 seconds, and 1 tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 34 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 805 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (322 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 120 times.
