Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, September 25, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (September 25, 2025) at 09:25 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 4 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 100 meters above the peak or 1,523 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 10.1 millimeters and a duration of 33 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 25, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 57 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12.8-32.3 millimeters and durations of 47-210 seconds. Additionally, there were 67 gaseous emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-11.8 millimeters and durations of 29-32 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, and to be aware of potential hazards from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,320 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,485 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 281 times.
