Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, September 20, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (9/20/2025) at 11:05 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 27 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 72 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 20, 2025, at 6:00 PM-11:59 PM WITA showed 2 eruption earthquakes with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 72-87 seconds.

Then, 2 exhalation earthquakes with an amplitude of 10.5-14.8 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 41-44 seconds, and 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 35 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a sectoral distance of 7 kilometers from the southwest to northeast of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki''s eruption center.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,187 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,464 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 526 times.
