Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon, Ash Height Reaches 800 Meters Above Peak

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (March 5, 2026) at 12:14 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 800 meters above the peak or 2,384 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 123 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on March 5, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WITA showed 2 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-11 millimeters and durations of 47-77 seconds.

Then, 1 emission earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 35 seconds, as well as 13 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5.1-11 millimeters and durations of 53-235 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 843 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (422 eruptions) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 7 times.
