Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, April 16, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 05:33 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 10 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 3,500 meters above the peak or 5,084 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on April 16, 2025, from 18:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 37.7 millimeters and a duration of 86 seconds.

Then, there were 18 tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.2-14.8 millimeters and durations of 24-196 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 388 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 2,858 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,305 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 260 times.
