Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Hulu Sungai Tengah Decreased by 1.05% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, South Kalimantan reached 3.9% in 2025.

This figure decreased by 1.05% from the previous year's 4.95%, while in the last 5 years it decreased by 0.74%.

Indonesia's average PoU in 2025 was 7.89%. This means that the PoU in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to observe food and nutrition security conditions.

This means that residents of Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency who consume food but do not meet their energy needs make up less than 3.9% of the total population.

Compared to the other 12 regencies/cities in South Kalimantan Province, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency ranks 7th in terms of PoU. The regions with the lowest PoU (top ranks) are Tanah Bumbu Regency (2.48%) and the highest (last rank) is Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency (6.16%).
