Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Reaches Approximately 900 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 05:55 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 31 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 900 meters above the peak or 2,484 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 313 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on July 6, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 2 eruption quakes with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 248-313 seconds.

Then, there were 4 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-10.5 millimeters and durations of 7-10 seconds, and 3 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-29.6 millimeters, s-p 1.3-1.7 seconds, and durations of 12-16 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,463 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (644 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 304 times.
