Mount Semeru Erupts on Tuesday Night, Activity Level at Warning

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Tuesday (25/11/2025) at 00:53 WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 10 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 800 meters above the peak (4,476 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the north. Mount Semeru's eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level IV (Warning). Seismicity observations on November 25, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WIB showed 45 eruption tremors with amplitudes of 10-22 millimeters and earthquake durations of 64-162 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 2 avalanche tremors with amplitudes of 3-10 mm and durations of 29-107 seconds, and 4 emission tremors with amplitudes of 6-8 millimeters and durations of 43-45 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 20 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks (river borders) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for hot cloud expansion and lava flows.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,035 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions, with 2,822 occurrences.
