Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, February 17, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:43 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 3 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 400 meters above the peak (1,984 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 50 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 5.9 millimeters and a duration of 78 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 13 tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-10.5 millimeters and durations of 42-219 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 189 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 7 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,352 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (674 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 51 times.
